in my 75 gallon tank i have a 5-6 inch flowerhorn, 2 2 inch convicts, a 3 inch jack dempsey, and a 4 inch pleco. i have a penguin 250, penguin 350, and a magnum350 canister filter in the mail to be here soon. is this enough or just plain overkill. can i do away with the 250 to upgrade my breeder tank?

Right now shouldn't be a problem, but in coming months I think you're going to want it all. Granted, that's if the fh decides he wants the others to stay with him in that size tank. Btw, "filtration overkill" is a foreign language to cichlid keepers lol.

I think you could probably lose the smaller Penguin with the Mag on there, but if you leave it on the extra filtration can only help.

Could move the penguin 250 to the other tank, and find another filter for the 75g. Can't go wrong with either an AC110 or Emperor 400. If price is no issue several canisters are very good aswell.

What size is the breeder tank?

I'd wait untilt he other filter is in house and has been on the 75g for a couple of weeks if you can wait.

The filters you will have sound fine. The fish, maybe not. It depends on if they decide to coexist or kill each other.

they seem like they will be fine. they aren't aggressive towards each other anymore. sometimes the jd will go after a convict but the fh is very peacefull.

i think i am gonna do that. let the canister do its job and put the 250 on my 29 gallon.

true. i will prolly have a 125 by the time the jd gets big. the convicts haven't hardly grown at all since i got them. i just love the flowerhorn though. it's so pretty. wife doesn't like all the money in it though.

Jimmy ,You will be fine with the 350 & the Mag for now.Keep an eye on that fh though,it is still a baby .
