Hey all I have a 55g and have 2 maxijet 1200's. I'm about to purchase two of the Sure Flow 1600 Maxi-Jet Upgrade Kits. Will that be enough flow for a reef to be? What would be the best placements with the upgrade kits attached. Right now they are in the back corners facing one another.

Thanks!

I would think that should be "enough", you are not overdoing it by any means, but that should work. I would put the 2 big ones on opposite ends of each other and the two smaller ones in the middle facing away from each other at angles towards the big ones.

always wondered if you added to much flow, i know the coral would get stressed and prob die but the fish? i get flow happy sometimes...

It can depend on the type of coral, but with rock in the tank you can place the lower flow corals in lower flow areas.

The main thing is not blowing flow straight at corals. You want as much random flow as possible.

As for the fish, almost all of them will love having tons of flow to "play" in.

Ok I got my Sure Flow 1600's today and the box says if I use the white propellers I will get 2100gph per MJ1200. That seems like to much for a 55g. Would I be better off using 1 white propeller (2100gph) and 1 black propeller (1600gph).

Thanks

If they are indeed 1600 gph powerheads I would not worry about putting on the new propellers. They will provide plenty of flow for your tank.

Just make sure that you make are much random flow by pointing them at each other rather than creating a lot of laminar flow.

I would describe 2x maxijet 1200's in a standard 55g tank as: "Not enough flow."

But that is coming from a SPS reefer...and I am known to like me some flow. :D
