I have a 40 breeder that I am want to kepp live plants in, I have one 36 inch strip light with two 15 watt bulbs and a power compact (that I made) with five 9 watt bulbs three white two actinic bringing me to about 85 watts is this enough to keep plants? If so what kind do well?

Hiya GynMonkey, welcome to MFK.
I have always stuck to easy care plants but the light level seems a bit low for the morer touchy plants if it was a standard tank. You say it is a 40g breeder, is that the 36"x 18"x 13"tall tank? If so your lights should be fine for even full light plants. I love the wide, shallow tanks.

yes it is the standard size, what are some of the low light level plants, sorry for all the question I have al ot of freshwater taks and saltwater tanks and kept most types of fish but I have never ventured in to plants.

Vals, some of the cryptocormes, anubias, java moss, I have kept mainly planted tanks but unlike alot of members I have always stuck to the easy ones.
