Got the tank with fish already in it. The fish were not compatible with each other very well and the tank was overstocked. Cleaning out the gravel substrate quickly became a pain and when I left to Maui for a week, I returned to find a tank full of dead fish.
I cleaned out all the dead fish, cleaned the tank and removed the gravel. I purchased silver sand at a pool store and only had enough left to fill half the tank (used most of the bag in my 35G).
Purchased three female convict cichlids and wanted them to have places to hide so put in a black vase and two gatorade containers. They used the hiding places but the tank was so open that they constantly chased each other given the limitless line of sight.
Stole some large PVC pipes from work and it helped create some more hiding places. I also added a few fake plants to break up the line of sight. My neighbor was moving and gave me their two demasonis and 12 tiger barbs. I rehomed the demasonis and split the tiger barbs between my 35g and this tank.
Added a third PVC pipe and stacked all three, breaking the tank in half. This successfully separated the territories evenly and all the fish finally seemed to be calming down.
Received my driftwood in the mail from tharsis. This is not going to be it's final resting place but it just fits well there for now as it soaks. I placed rocks on the wood to hold it down since its buoyancy is pretty strong.
I have several more close-up pictures and videos of the fish that have inhabited this tank. This thread was basically just to show the evolution of the tank from when I got it until today.
