EPDM liner with rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have seen a tank made of acrylic that a ray chewed on and it's amazing what they can do. It was not too bad but that was on acrylic. Is this normal behavior for rays? I plan to keep some rays soon but don't like the idea of them chewing on my tank I just polished. 45 mil is thick stuff I would think it would hold up to a good beating. Anyone have ideas how to help a ray not chew on tanks and such? Maybe they just need more entertainment in life. Lol

Looked around seems common for others. I would message the guy from Washington who breeds rays like crazy see what he uses in his ponds.

On tanks it's most often the sides of the tank or the front not the bottom.

Couldn't you add sand to reduce the chances of them chewing on the liner?? Just a thought

I kept some motoros and marble motoros, sizes ranging from 12" to 24", in a pond with an EDPM liner for about a year, was always worried I would come out to find a barb through the liner or someone chewing there way through it but I never did. I did have sand in there to help protect the bottom from chewing, but they still could have gotten at it if they wanted to.
