After waiting 12 years since missing them on the Mellon Collie tour I finally got to see the Smashing Pumpkins live last night.

The sound quality wasn't the best, I still think the overall volume at the arena they played is just too loud to be clear or enjoyable. Still, I had a fantastic night, so good to hear some of the older stuff. Mayonnaise, Hummer, Drown, a solo accoustic version of 1979, Today, Stand Inside Your Love were all epic, and when they closed with Muzzle it was just about perfect. They stretched United States out to over 15 minutes with come crazy guitar noises and intense drumming, just further confirming my opinion of Jimmy Chamberlin as the best drummer in modern rock.
In fact I had such a blast I'm flying to Christchurch to see them again tomorrow night! could be the last time they're ever here (hope not!) so might as well make the most of it.

And just to make yesterday even better..

I got to meet Jimmy at a music shop yesterday and got my tatty old Siamese Dream CD signed. :D

Anyone else want to share their best live gig experience?

I....Hate....You

Heh, too many too count...Most, you wouldn't care about...Chilled with In flames, chilled with Children of Bodom, met Cannibal Corpse, met Dying Fetus....

I have yet to see the Pumpkins...not fair

I grew up really close to the Irvine Meadows amphitheater (now the Verizon amphitheatre). I used to sneak to shows all the time. Ive seen more than 500 shows there over the years for free, some epic, some god awful, but all FREE!!! Cant really put my finger on what was the best show though....

Go see them if you get the chance, don't listen to anyone who says "its not really the pumpkins because its only Billy and Jimmy" etc, Those two did 90%+ of the work in the studio, from writing to actually playing the instruments, the other two weren't much more than glorified extras for touring. (yah I know James wrote a bit, and it would be cool to see him back in the band, but he's not essential). I would much rather see the current line-up than see them with out Jimmy in the post-overdose part of the Mellon Collie tour.

For real? C.O.B.?

Was Alexi drunk? lol

I know what you mean about concerts being too loud to enjoy. Thankfully, the last few I've been to have been about the music rather tan the volume

I'm glad you had a good time, I'd like to see the Pumpkins someday.

That's pretty cool man. I was wondering if the show would still be good or not.

The Pumpkins was the first concert I ever went to back in 97 or 98...can't remember, but it was the Mellin Collie tour with Garbage...post o.d.

I thought the pumpkins died out near Y2K. I wouldn't mind seeing them.

They are playing at V - Fest.

Also doing sideshows.
