Okay, so this was a complete test run and I had my back up plan ready to go.

My kingsnake ate not only his live mice but my cornsnakes too, who was in the process of shedding and refuses to eat in that time frame. So he ate 11 in total, even two of the four I bought for my cornsnake AFTER he shed.. So I was okay, this is redic and I'm going to get him a rat. Well the place I go to only sells medium rats.
I use to have four pet rats, so doing this was bringing me to tears but I knew I'd have to do it sooner or later. So might as well suck it up and get over it.
So I walked into my regular petstore where everyone knows me by name. (thats how much time I spend in there) I was like "how big are your medium rats?" Just wanting to get the length and about how big around they were. The size seemed right, so I got only one, plus some feeder mice as a back up.. My cornsnake still wont eat. BUT ANYWAYS, I didn't want to see what it looked like, NOTHING. My mom looks in the box and was like "you're not going to be able to do it, I know you." So I was like just give me the box.. Well this rat didn't want to just come out.. So I was to grab it.
She is GORGEOUS. Yes, SHE.
So, I stick in the tank. My kingsnake(tater, btw) goes after her. Wraps around her, she breaks free. He starts trying to attack her reflection, and then sees me and starts trying to go after me. So I'm tapping on the glass where she is. He goes for again.. FAILS AGAIN, she breaks free. He tried 2 more times and she kept breaking free. So I pulled her out of the tank, she RUNS up my arm and onto my shoulder where she hides herself in my hair and sits there shaking. She's been there for 4 hours now and has yet to move.
So I fed him the feeder mice.
Needless to say she is now a member of my loving family. Me & My mother have decided to name her Athena. We are going to my LPS tomorrow, finding a male that doesn't bite us when we pick it up or anything. We are getting him from the feeder bin. We will breed them and use the babies to feed him. We wont be handling them what so ever, that way we get no connection to them what so ever.

I'm happy to finally have my rats back. (:

but on a serious note. I think something is wrong with my kingsnake, I think his senses are off.

We never fed our snakes in their tanks/enclosures. I actually fed them in the bath tub.

We're now down to a single juvenile ball python who eats pre killed...a first for us...but oh so convenient, and safer for the snake.

I had a feeder survive a strike with nothing but a scratch on her nose. We bought her a cage, some bedding, and some chew sticks and found her a home on Craigslist.

I would suggest trying them out on "stunned" feeders, then moving on to pre killed, but I'm pretty sure that whole process would be tough for you.

I had a Dumerils boa who REFUSED to eat dead rats for two years. I always fed him stunned, and after two years of trying, he now eats f/t. Way cheaper, way easier, and definitely way safer for the snake. Not only due to damage that can be done by rodents, but also the yucky bugs petstore feeders carry. *shudder* I buy my feeders at rodentpro.com
