I have a 3ft american eel, about 4lbs. He has had problems since I moved him into a new tank; he has been laying upside down (normal) but his mid section has been floating and bloated (not normal). Red sores have appeared along his body, which have been healing. Elsewhere I have seen that this might be a sign of constipation. American Eels aren't normal fish however, so I am worried about the dosage for the tank. Also most people trying this method have had dramatically smaller fish. I have also heard that giving him a highly inundated "bath" in the salt may be effective.

What dosage of salt should I use for an american eel, and for how long and how often? Thanks for any advice. Take note that Amer. Eels have very small, almost invisible scales, that do not provide the same protection that, say, goldfish scales might (they make up for it with copious amounts of slime.

Any dosage suggestions here, even for smaller fish, would be appreciated. (Especially dosage suggestions for scaleless fish.)
