I've heard of people using epsom salt in their tanks. What are the pros and cons of this? Is it basicly like aquarium salt?

How did I know that you'd answer this for me? :D

So if I have a brackish tank I should use aquarium salt and not epsom, right?

If you have species with specific magnesium requirements, you can augment the tank's salinity with epsom salt. Otherwise, just use marine mix for alkaline brack setups or straight table/rock salt for neutral brack setups (usually for areas with already high pH from the tap) .

id use marine salt to make brackish water if that is what you are doing more trace elements

Adding marine mix for trace element additives is a pipe dream. The system will use all the trace elements up quickly. Unless you want to constantly replace the marine mix, I'd recommend using a trace element restorative additive to bolster the system between costly water changes.

Alot of people use a mix of epsom tablesalt potassium chloride and baking soda as a "rift lake" buffer mix,my shellies had stopped breeding I started using the mix and now theyre breeding again
