equation for gallonage

Length X Width X Height (in inches) divided by 231 = the containers # of gallons. (231 cubic inches to the gallon)

You don't see anyone say 53, 46, 67 or anything not divisible by 5 though.;) There'll always be a displacement taken up by the decorations, etc. You can't expect a full water volume to the rim as well.
