Hey Erwum, hope you can help me, you seem to be the native minnesota expert, what plants can i pull from a lake or river here in minnesota that would like my aquarium.

its a 135, temp is usually almost 80, well arriarated and filtered, sand substrate but i would probly pot it anyway

i got a couple red belly piranha in there now

any advies appreciated, specially if you could post a pic of plants that have worked for you

Thanks

Why I gotta be ERWUM? LOL I have been pulling plants from lake Minnewaska, but they don't survive long because the temps are too high. There are some great plants you can use, I apologize for not knowing names. The leafy variety are better, but I doubt they willl survive your 80 deg temp. Also, they all seem to die in the winter no matter what the temp is. I theorize that the reason is that they are annuals, and die every winter naturally, althouh I could be wrong. The problem with using these is that they make a huge mess when they die. I think the only way to keep native fish with native plants is to use a chiller, something that I am looking into. I will update you when I figure out what kind of plants I am using. Thanks for the plug, btw. Good luck.

Thanks, I scuba dive Minnewaska some times, my grand parents have a summer place in Alexandria, Miltona actually but noone really knows where Miltona is, thanks for advice, i might set up a tank and just try a few. let me know if you hear of any that work
