Hello,

i got my new 4.5 inch E.E, and there is liltle problem, im afraid my Erythrinus is not interested in feeder gold fishes/guppys/molys...

IS there any way except making my fish starving to force him to eat that feeder fishes ?

Regards.

Some would agree that it is not so bad that your ery ignores feeder fish.Try to find out from whomever you got it from what it had been eating and stick with that.I used to feed mine freeze dried krill, earthworms and even floating pellets.

Its ok, since ive posted this my E.e ate 3 guppys.

Now question is, how often i should feed him ? He is ~4.5" (12cm) and feeders are from ~1-1.5" (2 do 3cm)

Since the day I picked my guy up, I have yet to add a feeder. For the past few weeks I only put in market shrimp and massivore pellets. He was 3.5" when I got him and I'd say he is a min 4". The smell of massivore drives him crazy... He starts bitting everything, seen him bite my air line, thermometer and my Anubia till he found the pellet when I starved him for 1 day. It was funny Lol

I would stay away from live food if you plan on housing him with other fish, JMO

I had the same issue, had to keep the lights out for a few days and not feed. Removed all the feeders and he took silversides and FD krill.

Lets keep the topic and talk about how much time between feeding him ?

What you guys think about: feeding - day off - feeding - day off and so on... ?

Also, how much he should eat ? As much as he want or ?

Also, is there possibility that Erythrinus erythrinus would die becouse of overfeed ?

Also, how could i lower the temperature of water ? Since its summer right now in Poland so we got arounc 30*C right now outside :|

Higher temps raise metabolism increase growth rate and activity. Lower temps the opposite 78-80 degrees is a good stable temp. If the summer heat is raising the temp of the tank then I would turn the dial back. As for how much to feed your fish - IMO getting to know your fish is the only way to truely know. Each fish has it's own different personality and requirements. For me I learned by feeding small doses and steadily increasing til' there was leftover food or the fish would take time off from eating.

I feed diff amounts for 7 days. Then stick to the closest one (no food left by morn since I feed at night).

As for warm water, couple things w/that.
1, if the fish can tolorate high temps, it's a good idea to add aeration to the tank.
Of you can not get your temp down even w/no heater then daily water changes, diy chiller out of an old working mini fridge or freeze 2 liter water bottles and toss them in your sump (won't drop the temp very much but it can help. Dropped maybe 2 or 3* last time I did this on my 300 couple years ago)

Best way to know if any tankmates don't like the heat (IMO) is their breathing or if they are surfacing (if all params r good I would consider the heat is the prob)

As for my Ery Ery, I feed him every other day 3 massivore pellets and the day in between I feed just 1 MP

Thanks a lot for the answers, you helped me alot.
Ill post my future problems here probably :)
Regards !
