Hi,

I've got a 29gallon tank set up and cycling and planning to get a Erythrinus Erythrinus. I've got a fluval 205 on it, but I was wondering what else to set it up like? Sand or gravel? Fake plants? Caves? Hiding spots?

Also, do they like to jump? In other words, how tight of a top?

Thanks

Hey, your 29 gallon should make a good growout tank for an ery ery, you'll eventually need at least a 55g. As active as mine is I feel bad for him being in a tank with a footprint of 48x18.

I use sand as a substrate as they rest on the bottom quite frequently. Plants are not a must but mine does hang out in floating plants on occasion. Caves are a must, or at least a large piece of driftwood he can hide behind. As with any predator they are messy and I'm not sure if the 205 is going to be enough, if not add a AC70 later down the road.

They do not jump much but they can so a tight fitting lid is a good investment.

Glad your Ery is doing well Mudfrog.

I see one for sale on fish rooms plus, but any idea where else to get one?

They will probably be your best bet, which is a good thing as they charge less for shipping then any other vendor.

I do recall seeing some on Aquabid, 2 for $100 shipped, they might still be on there.

Yeah, but it depends on distance from him to the receiver, doesnt cost me much at all and I might get one from him as I miss my old ery.

29 not for life.
but for a long time its okay.
add decor according to your liking.
as long as they feel comfortable with some hiding places, its fine.
and yes,they JUMP.

Ery.ery. It's a great fish to keep and care for. Plenty attitude, great appetite, awsome colors, and grows to a manageble size.... for the avg. "oddball" aquarium keeper. Deffinately in my top five favorate fish to keep! Glw your red hifin wolves.
