with a max size of 20 cm i cant see why not ,just keep up on water quality , plus they dont need lots of swimming room

I think the amount of swimming room varies from fish to fish. I've had ery ery that didn't swim very much at all and others that were all over the tank. The one I have now would not to well in that small of a tank.

they swimm more than the Hoplias...

that would be fine for a while but a 40 gallon breeder would be ideal

I would say that the 40 would be a min not just because of space but for the stability of the water. Any wolf tends to be a pretty messy eater and unless you want to gravel vac/water change after every feeding, I'd go with a bigger tank. I'm not too sure how fast these guys grow since I have only had mine for a few weeks now. I was wondering if anyone has kept multiples of these guys long term. They were beating on each other at the LFS I got mine from so I was hesitant about getting 2 but I would like to keep 2 if possible.

i keep mine with 3 gold wolves and all is well. the goldies get after each other every now and again but red wolf is left alone and he leaves them alone. only time there is friction is during feeding. i've seen the red try to take fish from the gold's mouths.

reds activity varies between individuals.
they get to around 8 inches.
so a 40g would be good.
they grow very slowly.
i used to keep 3 red wolves together but with alot of hiding spots.
they tend to be more aggressive towards each other than gold wolves are.

Thanks. I'll probably give keeping two together a chance. Just as long as the new one doesnt kill the one I have now. The one I have now eats everything. He even took some shrimp from my hand earlier today.

if i were you,i'd keep at least 3 togather.
with only two,one could become dominant and kill the other.
with more ery ery,the aggression will be shared.
