Hey

Always have done sponge/HOB/no filter(plants and airstone)/ canister filters

Now its time I need to start getting over the irrational fear that sump will not flood my basement when I upgrade to a bigger tank (my goal of size keeps changing at least 180g-250g+ ) . i wanted to do a practice sump on a smaller scale first to see what styles of sump I like and do not like etc.

Will an eshopps overflow box be a good solution instead of having one of the tanks drilled and plumbed for less chances of leaks on my end here?

I am thinking of practicing with either empty 40g breeder or using a 75g planted tank (currently have 2x 110ACs) as a practice dummy or even squeezing the sump under the 112g acrylic in use and removing the fx6. Due to it not needing to be drilled if do an eschopps overflow ? Im thinking of putting in 30g sump underneath it if it fits through the door of the stand.

Let me know what your feedback is on this method if its worth trying it out?

The model im looking at is 800gph rated. I can go bigger or smaller if thats what you guys recommend. Is there different styles thats better than the other boxes?

Cheers

This is the model i was looking into purchasing sorry i forgot to add E6752B1E-6140-4583-B83A-CB9214CCF630.png

This style overflow is what got me my first reef ready tank. The syphon tube would not maintain and the contents of the sump were emptied onto the apartment floor several times.
I would purchase one of the DIY overflows and drill a tank.
