Est Filter Question?????

OK, well I have a 150 gal and Im changing out the filtration on it. Ive decided to go with all Fx5's on all my tanks and up the filtration amount since rays are getting bigger. Doing one tank at a time...

I have the 150 Im starting with first, it had two Fluval 405's on it..
Got my first Fx5 in a few days ago. Loaded it with bio-max in the bottom tray, bio-balls and ammonia block in the second and pre-filter and carbon in the top.
Took one 405 off the tank. Put the Fx5 in its place. Still have one 405 on the tank till the Fx5 cycles. Made no other changes.

My question is, how long will it take the Fx5 to est to the tank with the way Im doing it... ??? Will not be putting the other Fx5 on the tank till this Fx5 is est (has not come in yet anyway.. thinking I might buddy them at some point after both are est.. but thats later down the line)

I'm not eactly sure how long it takes to establish media on a new filter since there is an already established filter on the tank. WHat you could do (and what I would do), is take the established media out of the 405, put that in the new Fx5 and you won't have to worry about seeding the new media. Your bio media in the 405's is adequate to support the load of the tank, therefore if you put the established media in with unestablished media, there will be no mini cycles or ammonia spikes, and beneficial bacteria will continue to grow as needed on the larger surface of area of the new media.

ya, thought of that later... but I had already set the Fx5 up and also set the 405 up I took off onto another tank.. Didnt think of that till later when it was to late..
But plan on doing that with my other tanks when their Fx5 come in..
I just dont want to take the other 405 off the 150 tank untill I know for sure the new Fx5 is est and running like it should..

While you're wating for your other Fx5, I would take the media out of your 405, and rinse it in the tank. Leave the 405 off until the Fx5 clears the tank, and that would work as well.

Putting then on other tanks to get rid of older filters I have.
I have 11 total, (11= 404's and 405's)
Going to get rid of every cheap (in my mind) hanging filter I have.
Will be using 1 on a 55
2 on a 75
1 on a 40
1 on a 30
and already have on on my 65 tall
so Ill prob end up with 5 left over.. will hold a couple for backup and post a few on craigslist..
By the time Im done, the tanks above will have those filters and Ill also own 8 fx5's for my larger tanks and the new 260 Ill be setting up in a few month at our new home.
Then will be working on a 400gal pond and have not decided what Im filtering it with yet since it will be taking the place of one of m 250 tanks. Taking my motoro rays and making a 400 gal pond for them, then taking my retics out of the 150s and putting them in the 250's for now. So Ill be saling one of my 150s and keepin one for a pup tank..

Thats cool. Im sure we can work a price out. Wont be much. Prob 50 bucks.. Ill PM you when I have some ready to sale. Will be a month or so if thats cool. Matter a fact, were in TN are you? Ill be headed to Montgomery Alabama the weekend of Feb 18th. If your on the way, Ill just meet you and can save on shipping.

Im am in Memphis, so I am assuming you will be coming right through and I am not far off the main interstate. That would be awesome, very convenient. No rush on it though. The Rena is running, I am just not happy with it.

That will work. Ill be going rt thru there the 18th of Feb and then headed back on the 20th or 21st. So Ill get ahold of you before hand and we can make a plan.
All the ones I have are in good shape, Ill bring what I have and you can pick one.. And Im sure Ill have extra sponge pads for it and of course the media thats in it already..
