I saw one of these at a LFS is a display and instantly fell in love. Obviously can't get any because I don't have a brackish tank, but what information do y'all have on these beauties?

They love to be in groups, they are a delicacy in India. Their closest living relative besdies the orange chromide are the paretroplus in Madagascar.
India and madagascar used to be connected before continental drift gave us the continents we have today, these two groups of fish came from the same ancestors and neither are very closely related to mainland african cichlids.

basically a living breathing proof of evolution for some people who for whatever reason still don't believe in it.

and to top it all off, not very common in the trade... I've never seen one. If I did I would grab it in a heartbeat
