has anyone ever thought of using a 5 gallon poland springs watercooler jug as a DIY canister enclosure? you could easily pop a bulkhead on that top o would think, and i believe it would hold up to the pressure. anyone ever seen something like this? the only trouble i can think of would be getting a pump small enough to fit in there:(

seen a giant protein skimmer made out of one but not a canister
 
could this be fixed by putting the pump after the jug?

the media would just need to be packed in a way so as not to clog the lines.

your probably gonna want the from the tank to be at the top not at the bottom near the return
 
personally i think this would be better suited to be a biotower.
 
the more i think about this the more PITA i think changing media and filling media would be. nm
 
you could fill it with pot scurbbies and make the world biggest sponge filter :)
