Anyone ever consider making one? I'm currently in the process of getting a collection that either are European native or look alikes to the fish not legal in the States. Anyone have any feedback on this? Or has anyone ever attempted this before? I'd like to hear what everyone says.

Perch are cool, theyre like cold water european cichlids. I suppose carp species will probably end up needing a pond cause of their eventual size. but you could go with Roach. they are a silver bodied red finned shoaling fish. kind of like tinfoil barbs. I went fishing once in Europe and caught about 30 1"-4" baby perch. It's a shame you live in America or you could just go catch them all yourself. Although I think there are laws against taking wild animals in a lot of European countries.

There are laws against taking wild animals in a lot of states too...unfortunately most people don't give a rats @$$ about them...

You can have European natives if you know a right person that can import them legally to United States. However I would be concerned with few European species as they are illegal in some states. Common carp, Rudd, Ruffe, Three-spined Stickleback, Wels Catfish, Zander, Tench and Orfe are illegal in some states. Also I would steer away from a minnow species called Sunbleak where they can spawning out of the water by laying eggs on the stalks of tall plants.

Im basically going to go with carp, perch, zander(most likely a walleye),pickerel, rudd(most likely a goldenshiner). The Tench would be interesting to have but I wouldn't know where to even begin getting one. I guess these tank will be more of a look alike European native but I still think it will be a neat idea. I am also looking into a Wels.Currently I've started to make plans to house one must likely in an indoor 3,000 gallon pond untill it reachs the 6' mark. Then in an outdoor pond where there is no access to any native waters if it was to flood. Also it will only be one catfish so I will not have any reproducing.

In the great lakes region you can catch ruffe, and European weather loach.....just check with the Pennsylvania dnr and see if its legal to own them is a aquarium.

I can catch/ buy most of these very locally to me,
I always wanted a perch or pike but not set up a cold water tank yet

I think perch would be fascinating
