European perch

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Welcome the the MFK!

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that the european perch is a regulated fish in the US. Perhaps not in every state, IDK. I'd think it is worth reading up on this.

The answer to this question may help your search for a vendor. I, for one, have never ever seen it offered for sale.

Pretty positive they just put em on the lacey act/federal ban list back in 2016... shame haha... far superior to our american yellows. they grow alot larger.

yup...federally banned in 2016... may still be legal on a state by state basis, no sales or transport across state borders and no imports after 2016.

They'll be classed as invasive because they're extremely predatory. I'm from the uk and the European perch is my favorite fish. I'll have a cold water set up with them in before my fishkeeping days are over. As mentioned, the yellowfin perch is a good alternative for you, maybe better really because the European can get quite big.

I feel for you really because you've obviously got fantastic taste in fish, shame about your by laws:cry:

In my childhood in the early 1980-ies, one of my friends caught a 2-foot european perch in the Dnieper river. We have kept it alive on a string in the river for a long time for everyone to come see.

It's a big pity, here in the UK I can no longer buy channel catfish. As far as perch go we got loads of them in our local cannal
