Ok so my iguana that i have had for close to 16 years is not doing well. He was full grown when i got him so i estimate him to be closer to 18-19 years old.

He stopped eating a few weeks ago and i was able to get him to eat a little if i soaked him daily. Even with doing that he still was loosing muscle mass fast. But was getting some food so i thought he might pull through. I upped his heat as well to see that would help and it did not help anything. Now he is to the point where he won't move and even with soaking will not eat. I think he has just given up at this point.

I have been on the phone all morning with vets and finally found one who deals with reptiles, but the lady who sees the reptiles is not back until next week. Its killing me to see him like this an i feel helpless.

I know this isn't going to be a popular question. But is there something i can do at home to stop his suffering?

Thanks for any and all help.

most non exotic vets can do an euthanasia for you on a reptile. Furthermore it is their responsibility to do so. If it is time and you are not looking for treatment options contact a local vet and request just an euthanasia appointment. If it is further treatment you are looking for then you are stuck waiting for someone comfortable with reptiles.

only option comes to mind is turn the heat down or off. he will either sleepy time pass. or his metabolism will slow him down enof to get to a reptile vet.
