so i have been thinking about euthanizing one of my discus. He is the runt of the group, he has not grown in at least 3 months and i think the rays are starting to pick on him. he is very skinny even though he eats. i have put him in QT and treated for parasites ect. but still no change. hes probably 3 in max in size and i have noticed in the last few days that he has what looks like broken blood vessels on the back half of him, this is why i think the rays are after him. i think they tried to get him the other night.. its funny cause my larger discus 5+ in are ignored by the rays. i mean literally they will lay on top of the rays at night sorta like a kitten and a puppy lay together.
i probably wouldnt even think of taking this route if i thought i could salvage him but for those who have owned discus before you know what a truly runted discus looks like. his eyes are the size of an adult discus but his body is not.

I know i am taking a chance with rays and discus, but i think a juvie sized discus has no chance with the rays

whats your thoughts?

I'd say instead of euthanizing hand him off to a lfs or a friend. Unless the fish is truly suffering and on it's way to certain death I wouldn't kill it. It still has a chance to live a normal life. I've had to give away a decent amount of fish because they either didn't get along or it just wasn't the right situation for the fish to live in. Out of the rehomed fish I think all of them made speedy recovers from bullying or what not and ended up thriving in a different system.

Put him alone in a tank with no other discus,he's just a runt(but he may start to grow if put in a tank with no other discus)

Yeah, if he's otherwise healthy, I'd toss him in a tank he won't get beat up in and let him live on.
