On the API Aquarium Salt carton it says "made from evaporated sea water".
Am I missing something by thinking that evaporated sea salt sold for human consumption is the same thing and is perfectly safe to use for treating freshwater fish?

The reason I ask is that since adding some of the latter to my tank, my FW stingrays seem to have lost their appetite. Otherwise, their behaviour appears normal and no other fish are affected.

Why are you treating the tank with salt?

Cool thanks Nick, good read, one more quick question....

Will salt work to treat a sort of fungus I have around the lips of my Gibbys mouth?? I can't seem to find anyone who can tell me what it is??

Maybe if it is a true fungal infection then raising the temp and adding salt may help. Unfortunately it could also be a bacterial infection called columnaris which is highly contagious and needs treatment with antibiotics.
(A search of this site or a search engine will give you all the info you need about columnaris).
Also I would try posting a close-up pic of it in a new thread to maybe get a positive diagnosis.
Good luck.

Ok, just added 300Grams to my 90Gal and have also posted up some pics of the fungus in another thread, thanks Nick
