Recently I have been having a lot of evaporation in my tanks. Anyone have any ideas on how to reduce or compensate for this? I have glass tops on all of me tanks.

You say "Recently" have you changed anything? add a sump or lights on more than in the past, tank heat higher?

The drier the air is, the faster water will evaporate...

There are several causes for winter air to be drier than summer air...

Seal the tanks the best you can... and top off as needed...

While topping off without ever doing water changes is a bad idea as it constantly adds dissolved solids (minerals, metals, etc) to the tank...provided you are doing regular water changes the effect of this will be absolutely minimal and will have no ill effects on your fish nor your tank...

No major changes to the tanks themselves. The temps are consistant.

I do weekly water changes on all my tanks. It seems though every 3 days I need to top off the tanks. I think its because the windows are closed now and the heat is dry. Maybe a humidifier will help.

i dont know about a humidifier, i have more evaporation in the winter time and with the windows closed up i got a mold problem in a closet. so i have to put a dehumidifier in there to keep the moister down in that closet

Isn't your aquarium one big humidifier?

Wouldn't it be a lot simpler to just add a gallon or two to the tank mid week as opposed to add a humidifier?

stick to topoffs.. adding even more humidity to your house will only cause you problems..
