Hi All,

Well as some of you have saw in previous posts of mine I have been considering stingrays for a while but before giving into the urge to get them want to make sure I know what I am getting into.

When we moved into our house we built out large saltwater reef tank into the wall and did a dedicated fish room built to handle and control the moisture associated with the different tank setups in the room. Currently around 800 gallons and it evaporates roughly 10-12 gallons of water a day. We obviously did not want condensation/mold issues in the house and we were successful. Problem with this is now considering a large ray tank there is no way to get it into this same room, nor do I really want it there either.

This brings me to my main question. How much evaporation do you guys get per day in your 200-300 gallon ray and freshwater tanks? I get tons on my saltwater setups because I use fans as my main means of cooling the metal halide lighting. Obviously this would not be the case with rays and also talking a much lower turn over rate in a ray tank then a my reef setups as well.

Next question. I have been searching for pictures of ray tank setups and have seen alot of nice setups but looking for something different. I really like epicentyr's bar he built and this is one idea I am tossing around. Does anyone have pictures of setups that are both viewable from the front/sides and top? I do not think I want to do a pond as it really would not go with the rest of the basement so thinking more a closed/removable top.

Thanks! Scott

just get a tank with glass covers. Not sure how much condensation happens, but my 300 gallon ponds dont seem to have much changes in water level, but it probably wont matter if you get glass lids.

cover the tank well and you wont have a problem....

My tank has acrylic tops and they stay covered with water droplets all the time. I am running a large open top sump inside the stand and I only lose maybe 1 gallon every 3 days. If you did a covered tank you would need some type of air movement under the lids to keep visibility. If that is not an option then design a retractable lid that you can either fold back or flip up when viewing.
