Been keeping fish of all kinds for almost 30 years. Today when I went to my fish room I smelled fish. Like when you catch a live fish and the smell on your hands. Never had that before ever. I have had a lot of different smells from different food to a dead fish in the tank smell (which I can tell instantly ). But never this this. Just thought it was weird. Water parameters in all my tanks are great never nitrate over 20 ever. Reg water changes. Everything per normal. Tank in question has a couple med size rays 2 bichers and 3 small pbass and 2 severums. Tank is 300 gal. With 3 fx5 and an ehiem pro 3. Uv sterilizer all that jazz. Feed shrimp and pellets. All good devoured within minutes as always. Fish are healthy and active. Just never smelled that before. Can always tell if something is wrong by the smell of the water. Other ray tanks and other tanks smell normal. Any help would be great if something may be off. Thanks!
Matt

I understand where your coming from believe me. But I have never used carbon on ray or cichlid tanks. It's not that kind of smell. Only way I can explain it is like I did. Like if you pulled a fish out of your tank and smelled it. But in the air in my basement. No horrible smelling food like massivore or other hakari pellets smell. Or dead fish smell. Or crashed filter smell. I don't know

I get this all the time lately... I cant find where it is coming from... Try smelling the water of each tank and see if it is coming directly from them...
