I got my red wolf last week and jeez it's the most active fish i've ever had! It's even more active than m armatus! When i turn on the lights, it get excited and explodes around the tank and swims around for quite a while. At night, it does laps around the tank. My armatus sit swims in one place and watches wile my bichirs sometimes join into the action. my problem is that almost everymorning, i find that my red wolf has sustained a minor injury every night because of his behaviour. today i saw that one of his scales was loose, his top fin a bit tattered, and a gash on his head in which i suspected that he jumped and bumped his head on the glass top. When i just got him, my wolf was always jumping up inside the bag.

what should I do to prevent injury from jumping or from his jumping altogether? Are my bichirs or armatus spooking him?

My Erythrinus erythrinus and Erythrinus sp. Peru would always try to jump out of the tank - I'd hear random thumps in the middle of the night. I always figured it was just them being red wolves..

To be honest, "scales was loose, his top fin a bit tattered, and a gash on his head" doesn't sound like bump n' grind type of bruises. I would guess that it's being attacked by a tankmate IMO.

Well i'm suspecting injury too but it seems very unlikely to be my bichirs since they are very peaceful and lazy. plus, if my armatus were to attack my wolf, my armatus would of killed it easily with its fangs.

I honestly think it's your H. armatus. Explains the gash on the head.

way too shallow to be the fangs. Just the outer skin is ripped a bit. weird thing is, I got the wolf with a scar that forehead and every day, the scar gets a gash every single time at the smae area! i'm guessing that the wolf is bumping at the top glass. I have no decors.

Well, if you've noticed additional damage in the same area every day it's probably from head bumping.

I ended up losing my Erythrinus erythrinus (6") to bullying. I found him looking traumatized with gashes and scrapes all over the body in the morning. When I came home later that day, it was dead. It was clown knife (7") who did it - the only other fish in the tank.

No insult intended at all, my question would be whether or not the tank itself is too overcrowded or too small, causing your wolf to feel stressed? I've got two red wolves in two seperate tanks right now, neither with any 'company'. One is very active, out hunting all the time. The other is a ploach, sitting in his hidey spot all day until food swims past. LOL!
