Well I woke up at 5am this Monday with abdominal pain. I work at a warehouse, so thought it was some kind of pulled muscle. Glad I got it checked out though! I called off Monday which my job wasn't too happy about. I already put my 2 weeks in about a week ago, so I'm sure they thought I was just calling off for no reason just to play sick and get a day off. Not unusual to have people call in "sick" just to take a day off in a warehouse. After calling off at 1pm I went to urgent care and told them about my right bottom abdominal pain. They didn't have the equipment there so sent me to the ER saying it's more than likely my appendix.

At the ER I waited for almost 6 hours before I actually got a room with a doctor. After doing all of this it took a cat scan and maybe 40 minutes later they told me my appendix was distended and would need to be taken out. At this point I was maybe a 4 on a 1-10 scale of pain. It really didn't hurt alot. Mostly just a steady dull pain all day. Either way it needed taken out. I'll naturally smile alot even when he told me that they would have to do surgery on me. I'll post a pic of me right before surgey and I'm smiling like they just gave me a $100 bill or something. lol

I had the surgery done at 1:30pm today 3/6 (tuesday) after staying all night at the hospital. That sucked, they check on you soo much you can't get any sleep. A few times I just acted asleep, so they would not bother trying to wake me respeatedly. I know it's their job, but still sucked. At least they were nice. They did a laparoscopy surgey to get the appendix out. Basically 3 incisions with one being a little bit bigger than the rest and take it out that way. Instead of the old way of just making a single incision(larger) and getting it out that way. They told me the pain after surgery would be less than the appendix pain. Maybe true if you waited 5 days for it to rupture, but since it was early the after surgery pain hurts more.:( I deal with pain pretty good, they gave me Norco though. Something like Vicodin they said. My appendix was 12 mm or maybe cm long and it's suppose to be 4 so it was pretty big. Took maybe an hour for the surgery and an hour for recovery. I was out by 9:30pm. Not bad. Can't do anything though, but who cares. :grinno: My GF is taking care of me.

On a good note. I got a new job and planned it so that I would have almost 2 whole weeks off before starting my new job. Well I can't lift anything over 30 pounds for 2 weeks or I could get a incisional hernia. Three would be better, but two will do. So my last week and couple of days of work at my current job I can either get 40 hours of sick pay or they can make me pass out work in a office. Nothing weighs less than 40-50 pounds here, and we work 10+ hour shifts. Not going to work when I can hardly move. If they hassle me to try and lift a few little items, I'll just leave. I'm not blowing out my stitches and have to get to the ER for 6 hours over this job when I obviously don't want to even be there(2 weeks are in). Well that's about it. I just felt like telling people how it all went. I was pretty nervous despite the fact I was smiling alot.

This was probably an hour before surgery.

This was maybe 30 minutes after I woke up in the recovery room and was taken to my room. Kind of a forced smile, but I was feeling pretty good actually.

Yep, I have mine out along with my spleen, gallbladder, part of my stomach and large intestine (I was in a very bad car accident) but apparently you can live without all that crap!

Good luck with the recovery!

Good call going early. Mine ruptured around 2am on a Monday, no pain just vomiting and pooping so i thought i had the flu. Finally by Tuesday around 7pm the with took me to the ER. Since i waited so long gang green set in and i was in for 5 days. Went from being a cut 210 to 150 over a month from my body burning so many calories fighting infection and with my insides so tender it took a good 6 weeks to able to eat more than a happy meal.

ouch man, effing ouch to viscious and bbortko

good to hear the surgery was a success. also good call on going in for the checkup before it ruptured. don't know how it feels but i just hear it ain't fun
