I picked one up today for 10$. He was trying to hide in a five gallon tank behind the uplift tube from the undergravel filter. He was pitch black with no colors showing and had some fin damage.
The owner said there was no way he had a 1o$ flowerhorn in his store (the average price for the rest showing colors was 50$).
the owner told me good luck since he never showed any color and I told him not to worry after he is going to be placed in his own 55 gallon.
After a half hour in the new tank, he started to lighten up and the patterns were showing on his sides.
He still runs when I approach the tank, but he was being neglected by being in the back corner of the store.
I will try to get some pictures first thing tomorrow.
