My black arowana is around 17-18", i have noticed the last week weeks he fights his self...ha ha

He will see his tail when he turns and go in circles like a dog and chase his tail. I tried to get a video but when i get near the tank he stops... Just wondered if anybody has seen this before.

Ya mate.. I have.. same with my silver aro.. used to be the one with the best fins and colors until he started to bite himself.. I've always wondered why this behavior.. can't be just random.. he is a lot mellow now.. but the fins are healing pretty slow.. anyone else observed this behavior???

tail chasing biting is a problem that can get very bad if not stopped soon

put lots of mid water tank mates and i do mean lots 5-10 big tinfoil barbs or silver $$$

my jardini fights its own reflection some times...gets pretty nuts and ends up scaring himself i believe. lol.

i have never had an aro fight itself, i have had them go nuts on a divider that they can see another aro on the other side...i have thought about putting a mirror in just to see if they would do the betta fight

really? i have never seen this before. I have an armatus in the tank so i may loose the dithers, but worth a try

i have seen it before not on my own aros but in a shop the aro ripped its self to bits

Mine did it but it was due to damage which then started to rot, i presume they think something is biting them. Treat with salt.

Check your water. It could be parasite or chemical that causes irritation on its tail. Some arowana also prones to nipping its own tail. Either case could result in your arowana tearing its tail off. Don't take it lightly.
