SH*T! I just realized I didn't use it when I did a water change over the weekend.

Seriously, I'm having a hard time remembering it, i've gone 21 years without it it and now that I need to I keep forgetting it, most of the time I remember halfway through the water change though.

Holy damn if someone just forgot dechlorinator then that is a monumental screw up.

I'm more tempted to believe something like that was intentional sabotage/mass piscicide.

I'm betting the college saw how much the aquaculture department was costing them in water, power, and labor and decided to stage an elaborate "accident". I think we'll see a dramatic downsizing of the facility and next quarter they'll beat their budget and the deans will all get fat bonuses.

I specifically set a reminder for myself to use dechlorinator just so I don't forget. Maybe you should, too?

You may be right.

Forgot the dechlorinator? No...somehow, I suspect that a facility such as this does not rely upon some poor schmuck running around with an eyedropper and a measuring spoon to dechlorinate the water. This might be something as simple...and as poorly planned...as an automated system without a backup in case of power loss, or without any redundancy built in to safeguard against equipment failure.

Or it might indeed be intentional sabotage. I remember many years ago a similar, although smaller-scale, instance at the Belle Isle Aquarium in Detroit, Michigan. I visited that place an enjoyed it for years while growing up, and was heartbroken when the story appeared in the local papers. Someone had intentionally poisoned the water in several of the display systems and killed off a number of impressive specimens. The one that hit me hard was the gigantic Alligator Snapper that I loved to visit.

There are some sick people in the world...always have been...:(

Its too easy to forget when loading from a hose. Im on the fence as to whether its more efficient or just take a little extra time and fill my big brute container and get the temperature and proper dechlorination procedure. I resolved if I'm just doing a 25%er, to use the hose method. Anything larger, use the receptacle which I'm usually inclined to do.
If I get pressed for time, I can fill the 'bucket' the night before and do it the next morning. My garage is staying at 76-77 this time of year. In the winter its heated and Its still doable then as well.
