The last 4 setups I have done, I get this white, algae looking stuff on the glass, driftwood, etc. It always seems to go away once tank is cycled but is it normal to see this? I am cycling my ray pool now and the liner and pump is covered in this white film like usual and like usual I am confident it will eventually go away but what is it?

IS SOMEONE JACKING OFF IN THE WATER?

LOL, ALL JOKES ASIDE IT THINK IT IS MINERAL BUILD UP. IT SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM.

Hey Michael I know exactly of this film you are talking about. I don't have the answer and I don't think what anyone else has said is the correct one. I remember reading a post about it some time back. I am thinking some type of bacteria bloom or something of that nature but I could be way off. I also have had this happen on several occasions when setting up a new tank and it also goes away with time.

I think it could be something to do with your water, maybe higher content of a certain mineral etc causing a build up.

minerals dont build up in water to form deposits

minerals in water form solution in which everything is equally distributed equally throughout the solvent (water). so it cant be minerals, if it was in fact that, then why would it take on a slimy consistency?

i had that problem when i first cycled my 180 3 years ago, do afew 50% water changes and it will clear up.

what it is a major bacterial bloom, i took out a rock one time covered with that stuff and WHOOHAA does it stink.
