I have been keeping fishes for 15-17 years. I never could keep Clown Loaches alive because of skinny disease (internal paracites?). I gave up today. I spent about $200.00 on about 15 Clown Loaches 2 to 3 months ago. I wanted to try them out again to see if they would not go skinny on me. But most of them now are very skinny.

In the past I tried the harsh medical treatments that would treat internal paracites that would wipe out the bio filter completly but that did not work.

I am sticking to the blue botia which is a fish that can live forever.

I'm sorry you can't keep them alive. My problem fish seems to be Dwarf Gouramis :-( I adore my Clown Loaches, I've never had one get skinny and die but I hear people talking about that quite a bit. Maybe if you buy some online from a different area you'd have better luck.

What pH were you keeping the CLs at? What temp were you keeping them at? What foods did you offer and how often? If worried about parasites, treat with frozen foods with garlic extract to rid the CLs of internal parasites. Most parasite treatments can burn these scaleless fish. Fungal outbreaks are treated with increased temp (84-85F with boosted aeration) and Maroxy since this is safe enough to use on eggs. Keep them in neutral pH at 80F. My shoal enjoys snails, cracked mussels and clams, earthworms, blackworms, gammarus, Community frozen mix with garlic, sinking sticks, and live shiners for the larger loaches.

I've also found that praziquantel/flubenol gel food is useful
