I picked up six tiny gold jags a few months back and put them in my growout tank was hoping to get at least a pair out of the six , progress so far .....
The first dominant one mysteriously died I found it half eaten (like you do in cichlid tanks:rolleyes:) .
The second death was the smallest stunted one which I found hanging out of the new dominant ones mouth.
Now they seem to have settled a little theres still an obvious dominant one due to its size difference IMG_20151118_171902.jpg IMG_20151118_172036.jpg IMG_20151118_172541.jpg IMG_20151118_172528.jpg IMG_20151118_172105.jpg

I'm sure a pair will form , its still hard to sex them at this size especially as theres no pattern to go off lol , good luck with your umbee :)

Evz jardini Evz jardini i was wondering about these the other day. they looking awesome, almost piebald in appearance.

Thanks shane your top of my list if ican get them breeding like my other jag pair :)
There pattern does slightly change with moods ,they get dark patches on them when stressed out or battling gonna look awesome when they get adult sized if I can get a pair
Anyone any guesses on sexing these yet ? I was thinking the big one was dominate male but fins looking slightly female to me now lol here we go again

wow . what would I kill to get my hands on these fish . :p Ive had experience in growing out a few jags ... what I have noticed is the females seem to grow faster until the 6 inch range. Male jags seem to take forever until they hit around 5 inch mark and start to really grow. Im aiming female for the largest

however. Your dominant fish does have the male trait lips . I would let it grow for another month and post some more pics

Thanks tanyaelec11 glad you like them :p I've only ever seen them twice in the UK the first time I saw them they were 8"+ and expensive so I had to pass , so this time I couldn't let them go :D
I've always kept jags or a jag for as long as I can remember but I usually either grow out two at a time or grow them up individually but from around 5-6" so I know what sex I'm getting , these however were tiny 1-2" fish when I saw them so I couldn't resist to try get a breeding pair so I got six to growout up maximise my chances ;). If I can get a pair breeding like my other jags I'll be happy , I've got a breeding pair of jags that spawn every three weeks like clockwork , I've had the male for nearly ten years now he's still going strong and living the happy life now with his girl after spending the first six years of his life battling in my aggressive setup and holding his own against my jardini etc , thought he deserved a little chilled out pleasure in his life lol

Will these turn out like aquamojo's 1??? or idk if it was his. looked really nice. orange gold in color. these look more white. or cause there growouts?

They do have slight orange tints to them but theres lots more cream and white shades , they haven't changed dramatically as they've grown so far. I did have a little discussion about them when i first picked them up with a few members but i cant remember what thread it was on so i started this one :D
Hopefully a few people with more knowledge will help me out identifying exactly what they are ;):)
