Hey, I was thinking about getting some exodons. People have told me they need like 40 gallons, so I was gonna use my 75 for 'em, but I saw in another thread some guy said he was gonna get some for his 20 gallon. I also have a 20 long, and I was wondering, would exodons work in there? And how many?

i am not sure about the gallons size, wait for other MFK members to chime in since i only keep a single exodon. I would say a tank to accommodate at least as shoal of 10+ exodons will be a good start. The more exodons the merrier because of their behavior similar to that of piranhas and most schooling fish

i love when people respond only to say "i dont know the answer". way to go ;)

now.
you "can" do a shoal of 10 on your 20L, though generally speaking it is not advised. especially if this is your first shoal, and first experience with them. it would be "better" for you to get a bigger tank for them, but your 20L will be fine if thats all you got.
exodons do well in tight shoals, and while i wouldnt tell you to pack 100 in a 5g, i can say for sure that 10 in a 20g is absolutely possible with the right care taken. (in fact, i have done quite a bit more with no problems).
in a smaller tank, you will need to keep an eye on their water parameters, bump up the filtration, and maintain a good WC schedule. if possible, a planted tank would be good. stem plants will provide places to hide for the smaller ones that will inevitably get picked on.

any other questions, check out the write up link in my sig, or feel free to shoot me a PM

I have 10 exodons in a 20 gallon tank. I got addicted with them and bought 10 more and now they're in a 40 gallon tank. Once one of my big tanks becomes availabe, I'll move them there and buy some more. I love to see them in a spacious tank because they swim in school. Feeding time? Ohhhhhhhhh yes!

20 could fit about 12... then get a bigger tank if possible
