Im aiming to get 15 of these later this year, i would like to know everything you can tell me before i get them, what size tank do you suggest, although i may only have space for something no bigger than 48'' long. What catfish could i put in there if that is possible. I have already had info from freeskierrocket on this subject but i need more, not that your info wasnt great freeskier.

Can anyone help out?

For 15 you could use a 55 Gallon tank. A 75 is a better footprint.

25 look nice in a heavily planted 75.

They do best in large schools with plants that allow weaker members to hide.

My experience has not been with catfish but with loaches. They would not attack clown loaches or cory cats. Giant Danios were scaled.

Good prices from an importer are $2.00 to $3.50 a piece plus shipping at 1 1/2 to 2"

You should be able to get all of them to 2 1/2 to 3" in a little over a year. I have never seen them past 4".

They will eat flake, Tetra Sticks, chopped fish fillets and shrimp. You could feed them guppies but I would imagine poor growth and color if that was a staple.

Cheers

ive been looking into getting them from massive aggression and i will, by late summer, be living down the road from them so shipping wont be necessary. How long will a 55 do them for? Have the tank layout all sorted have the wood gravel etc all just waiting till i move and get the new tank.

Any other advice?

For 15 a 55 gallon would do for life.

A 75 gallon is a better tank because of the difference in width. Down the road, if you get different fish, you will be a lot more happy with a 75. Exodon are very active and weaker fish get chased and scales eaten. A 75 gives more room to escape along with my suggestion of plants. I never lost a fish to aggression. Others with small schools and open tanks have lost many.

You don't want the number of Exodon to fall under about 10.

I would get as many as I could up front and start raising them.
55 Gallon - Probably up to 20
75 Gallon - Around 28-30

wish i had a pic of the tank in my head, there will be lots of places to hide. the wood is 29by 12 and is a root structure it has a gap underneath 10 inches high. was going to plant the top of it with anubias and moss in order to give shelter and security. this will go at one end and be heavily planted behind it. the other end will be the river base with black gravel and river rock, this area will be open in order to give them somewhere to feed.

I have designed a few aquariums for friends etc i have the drawings all ready to follow when i get the tank.

Your welcome:) :D ............everything I said in pm's apply................A 55 gal is perfect, feed NLS cichlid pellets (small), bloodworm (frozen) as supplement.........Guppies once a month (but dont feed for a day of 2 before and get some popcorn for the show!!!!!).........cory cats to clean up the bottom...............some drift wood and plants (I prefer fake, but if you can get real plants to word great;) .........like I said at least 12 exos min, 15 - 20............and 25 max for the 55................good luck and you will not regret your purchases.........:D

BTW my EXO tank is always crystal clear, they hardly let any food go to waste, and if any sinks to the bottom..................the corys (my big albinos) mop up!!!!!

Easily my favorite tank...........non stop movement (ADD / ADHD) fish, I swear!!!! hahahaha..........beautiful, fast moving, colorful fish............:headbang2

I paid on average $5 per exo.............but have paid as high as $10 and as low as $3.99..............anything in between is good...........

Dont keep them with P's...........i tried, P's suck..........It's just not worth it..........believe me a nicely set up EXODON species tank will be centerpiece of whatever room the tank is in!!!

Believe me, you dont need to clutter the tank with too many hiding spots, keep it open as these fish are not in the least shy fish...., and they will appreciate the swimming room.........If you make it a planted tank or even add some fake plants, when they get a little tired they will kinda settle down in between the plants...

My setup = "V" shapped piece of drift wood centered in the tank and 2, 4" fake plants on either side, Blk gravel and Blk background......= nice contrast, open space and places to "chill".........:D

thanks for the info guys cant wait to get them!!!

I need to pick up a few more for my tank. I only have 10 in a 55gal, and you can definitely tell there are a couple runts getting picked on in the school. I have a pictus cat in there with them, but it stays hidden 24/7. Everytime I tried to add any kind of algea eater they'd end up MIA in a day or two. And this tank is very easy to keep clean (except for some algea), the water is always crystal clear.

BTW, I put the blue & black gravel in there back when I had electric blue johanne cichlids, looks kinda dumb now with the exodons. I suck at taking pics, it looks way better in person.
