If the turtles are small, they might get nipped and softshells are very sensitive to shell fungus, which will become imminent. If the turtles are bigger, the exodons will be a snack.
What kind of softshell? Male eastern spinies only get about 6 inches, while nile softshells get nearly sea-turtle size. Then you have every size in between.
the soft shells are about 2.5" across the shell. fairly small right now... i was hoping that since exodons are always on crack the soft shells wouldnt even bother trying after so many failed attempts. honestly im not too sure what kind of soft shells i have... ive tried to look for them online for hours and i couldnt get an ID. they are pretty much black with orange dots and an orange rim around the outside of the shell.
i guess im more worried about the exodons popping out the soft shells eyes out and going for the soft shells long neck. of course ill keep them well fed to avoid that though. do you think i would have a problem on my hands?
Sqwirel - Those are Florida Softshells - at that size, you should be okay, but be careful that the tetras do not chew on the shells/nose of the turtles. And honestly, I think they will be a problem. I would not risk the turtles' health.
I kept a rather large softshell with a puffer, & they fought all the time. It only lasted a few days. Eventually, the edge of the turtles's shell was scalloped--permanantly, even after moved. I wouldn't do it.
