Exotic Fish

Hello all, so I just got my 125 gallon finished cycling and I really want to make this tank am eye catching tank, filled with some cool fish. Hopefully you guys have some fish in mind that would be a good looking, exotic fish. I went to my lfs and a kid recommended a spotted gar..although I doubt a 125 is big enough. Thanks guys

It would benefit you more if you listed what fish you like and members can give you their suggestions. I personally would pass on the Spotted gar .

Maybe a fahaka puffer? With some tinfoil barbs?

Tinfoil barbs would be pretty neat. I was going to suggest that you could do massive schools of something small like cardinal tetras and dudes like that. Have the whole tank very heavily planted too with many different schools, it would look pretty great.

Personally the fahaka would be alone for me though. I'd worry about it chomping buddies.

I would personally go with some smaller central american cichlids. Hypsophrys nicaraguensis comes to mind. So does thorichthys helleri. A swarm of cardinal tetras along with lots of plants would be awesome. You could also do exodons if you wanted something monstery and swarming. A school of tropheus would be awesome. Tanganyikan shell dwellers with an open white sand bottom. If you've got the cash and determination, a small group of discus would also make a great tank.

Hmm. If he is into cichlids might I suggest a pair of salvini? One of the most beautiful IMO. I have a male in my 90 and he is truly a mini beast. You should see the guy eat, it's like he's one big mouth! I believe they only get about 8" and they breed easy.

I was meaning to get one for a really long time. He was about 15 bucks. Hard to find around here tho.
