yeah newts and salmanders just caught my eye when i started fish keeping three years ago so i finally got one

How do you justify that? The species you have naturally inhabits cold waters of 16-20 degrees celsius, which is a far cry from tropical bichir temperatures.
Was about to jump on the bandwagon and criticise; but it looks pretty well fed and healthy. If its working out perfectly fine, how do you do it?
