The "A" section face plate of the arowana is expandable/detachable much like the python detaching its jaw bone to swallow larger preys.
This was observed when my arowana tries to swallow a tiger barb, unfortunately it got spooked when I tried to take close up pic with my SLR. Further observation was lost to determined if it could do other changes to allow it to swallow a large prey.
