experience with Coralife Freshwater Aqualight 48" 4x65W?

Thinking about getting a couple of these for my new tank...anybody with good/bad experience with them? Or just general thoughts?

That model still uses compact fluorescent lamps. Newer fixtures using HO T5 lamps are generally better values, work better and last longer. Check out this one.

With good reflectors, a HO T5 can give you almost 2X more light/watt than a CF.

Thanks for the info. A local store is selling these new with bulbs for $130.00, but I agree that I should think long term.

I found a review of a similar model saying it can be loud.....is it?

I have one. It's not loud but the bulbs don't seem to last very long. IMO.

don't own that model I have a coralife freshwater 48" 2x28 watt over my 55 for the last year plus and has orginally blubs no signs of dulling great buy.

How close to water would you put it? I wonder if water would be able to get inside of it...

I have two of them. Love em. One does start making a low humming after being on for 6 hours or so. Isn't too loud or bothersome.

I have no problems with water getting into them. You can buy legs for them to rasie it above the tank a bit. One sits right on my glass tops, and the other sits in the canopy about 4 inches above it.
