I've always wanted one and I'm gonna try and get hold of one, I'm interested in people's experience with them in an aquarium.

Activity, diet, aggression, behaviour towards tankmates, growth rate, any diseases etc

Thanks :)

PS - please leave this in OMF, it'll get more replies than in native fish ;)

They get big so you'll need a very large aquarium. As an alternative you could get a grass pickerel they stay small and are still an esox sp. so still in the same family as pike (esox americanus). They could easily live in a 75 for life

I don't think they are aggressive toward tankmates they can't eat. The biggest obstacle is tank depth. These fish are long and slender but nowhere near as flexible as an arowana, and have a difficult time turning around in tanks. You will need a large, deep tank.

bichir, yep esox lucius is what I'm talking about. You catch one, I'll pay you to ship it to Spain ;)

Whereabouts in England are you?

northern pikes are a cool fish my friend got a small one in a bucket of minnows he bought at the bait shop. he figured out it was a pike cause he opened the bucket and a bunch of the minnows were dead with bite marks. he kept it for a while in a 40 gallon until it got almost a foot long. it was fed goldfish it grew from 3" to almost a foot in about half a year i think.
