Okay, so is it better to have no rocks or anything other than sand in the aquarium with the Dovii? Does anyone keep rocks in their aquarium with the Dovii?
Additionally, what is the best food to feed a large Dovii? What does everyone feed their Dovii primarily? Mine seems completely uninterested in Massivore pellets, how would be the best way to persuade him to accept the pellets? I realize this is probably not the best primary food, I am just trying different approaches. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Experienced answers are strongly preferred. ;)

My dovii only a foot long but I switch up his food hikari bio gold, sinking carnivore pellets, frozen brine shrimp blood worms krill and earth worms that I get from wal mart once a blue moon feeders.. As far as the tank goes pretty bare 2 hiding spots that's it if I get him a female I would add flat rocks

Thanks for sharing, have you been feeding him the pellets ever since he was little? Do you have any suggestions such as how to introduce him to pellets or get him to eat them? Mine seems so uninterested, and I would like him to eat a more well-balanced diet.

IMO doviis can be picky out of all the things I feed him pellets are usually what he refuses to eat..I gave him pellets since he was little but alot of the time he doesn't eat a lot of pellets only if he's real hungry.. Just keep offering it to him eventually he will eat it..

Ive got a 19-20" monster dovii. He eats NLS 7.5 mm jumbo fish pellets. I also use freeze dried krill, nightcrawlers and tilapia fillet as treats.
Most of the time if you having problems getting him to.take a new food you will have to fast him for a day or two. Once hes good and hungry there is a better chance he will try them. Just keep trying and be patient he will grow to accept them.

the best way to get any large cichlids to start eating is feeding them earthworms in my experiences. i have had a bunch of fish that wouldnt eat pellets...started off feeding them earthworms (fishing bait) to get their appetite up and then next thing you know a few days go by and they get so hungry they try the pellets out. then use the pellets as a main staple. key here is dont over feed, and provide a diverse diet.

Another trick that works is watching another fish eat whatever he's refusing usually that baits him in to try it but that's hard to pull off with real aggressive fish like dovii
