Hello all! I've been in the normal fishkeeping hobby for about 7 years now. I started when I entered college and have been going strong ever since. I've done the basic community, and when I get the space I'm going to be setting up some larger tanks. I'm mostly interested in discus and loaches (not in the same tank, mind you!). I also have a large interest in koi and currently have a small koi pond.

My current tanks include: 55 gallon fancy goldfish, 4000 gal koi pond, 29 gal softwater community, 10 gal divided betta tank (throwback from my college years).

I'm still getting used to this style of forum, so please excuse any mishaps.

Depends on how big of tank u want. 55-75 u can look at Flowerhorn, salvini, Oscar, mid sized ca cichlids, lots of stuff.
90-150 looking at lg cichlid community possibly, bichirs
180-240 Arowana and some of the non huge catfish, older dats, dovii

Just some ideas for a rough estimate. I know some ppl will disagree with the tank sizes I posted-it is the nature of mfk.

I said I wanted a tank, not another pond!

Mostly I'm looking at some kind of discus "biotope" (I always use this word loosely) setup. I'm still questioning exactly what size tank I want, and I imagine I'll get tons of opinions here. I think the final decision is going to be made by where I can put it and how much weight my foundation can take! I've also got plans for a 125 gal SE Asian "biotope" featuring roseline barb's (Puntius denisoni) and loaches. So not nearly as massive as some of the tanks I've seen here! :WHOA: But still pretty big for a 5'1" young woman! I can literally swim in some of these tanks.

If I ever get the money I'd like to look into a bichir tank with some of the smaller species.

Welcome to MFK... i'm sure you'll find most of your questions can be answered on these boards, as well as more than enough reasons to find an excuse to upgrade / buy another tank :)
