So for the past 4-5 hours since doing tank cleanings on 3 of the 5 tanks running I have watched some extreme cichlid aggression. I decided i needed to move some fish around from other tanks. I put my female convict full grown, 5-6 inch geo, 4 inch pike, and a 4 inch jag i just got into my 75 with my grammodes to see if it would decrease his aggression. I added new decor i got for xmas to wipe the slate clean territory wise. In about 30 minutes after the grammodes did some swimming around they turned crazy. The female chases all the fish except the male grammodes. The male grammodes has turned into a complete psycho. He chases everyone equally and has the energy to never stop. The jag was bought because i thought he/she would be able to compete for top fish but this male grammodes wont have it. I had to remove the convict before any extreme damage was done. The female turned dark and hasnt lightened up in color while the male got darker markings than usual and his fins turned a deep red color and his war on the other fish began. The only fish i can compare him to would be the first jag i had around 2005. He was a monster at 13 inches and wasnt afraid of a thing. He was housed with a mala wolf fish with a divider and the jag busted it down and ripped the mala's throat out while i was at work. I sold him shortly after that. This grammodes is less than half his size and is comparable to my old jag. I see no way of keeping him wiht another fish unless i growout the jag a lil more

Thats because you put the fish in the home of the Grammode. Not to mention, you put fish in there of equal size to threaten his domain and dominance. Dumb move. If you want it to work remove them all and put them all into a new home. The Grammode wont be so territorial, but he will still challenge for dominance. Plus a 75 is not large enough.

this isnt permanant it was just and experiment and no fish were harmed. I removed all the fish while changing the decor and added them one by one when i was done. None of the fish have challenged the grammodes, he just darts after them. This was for me to find out if he will allow tankmates

yea ive been busy but have also found it to be pointless to make threads lately. O and the fish seem fine now the chasing has stopped. Guess this just makes it easier for me to stay away from this site more often.

I'll say what i did was a noob move but i did it anyway. I didnt harm any fish in the process. I just dont understand the negative comments and what purpose they serve. If i came on here and said i tossed a bunch of fish in a tank and let them go and the fish died then yea i would expect some negative comments

I wouldn't let it get to you life is to short. keep the post coming. can't please everyone. Live and learn.

good point. I guess the next person who wants to know about grammodes aggression would see this and think twice before adding fish with them. I'm just done with making threads on here i guess. I dont need to learn anything about what im doing anymore. There are much more important things i could be doing than typing on a cpu. Everytime i come on here and read a thread someone says "why dont you look over previous threads". Just about everything has been posted on here already.. This thread could have gone a few other ways i guess. I wasnt looking for help really but i wouldnt mind a helpful comment here or there, could have also gone the way of people talking about cichlids they kept that were crazy aggressive. But like most of the other threads on here they go a negative way and become pointless anyway. So heres my last update- Thursday im gonna clean the last of my 4 tanks, then im gonna complete my preparation for winter on my mustang before tossing my cover on it. Then ill go get some fish supplies after cleaning out my fish supplies bins to see if i need anything. Then ill go help my father clean the gutters on his house since he cant go on the roof due to bad knees. Then ill wait for my lovely pregnant wife to get him from work since im on vaca till next week. Hopefully there will be some sporting events on tv for me to watch. MFK I'll see ya when i see. I'll check in to see how things are going or ill just ask friends who use the site who are also getting tired of it. Ill stick with the other websites

From what I've read about a Grammodes is they call them mini Dovii and with reason. I'm relatively new to fish keeping as I've been doing it for only 2 years. Even I know you don't do things like this. Some species just don't play well with others and from the things I've read, Grammodes are some of those species.
