Hello!
I have been using an old, beat up biocube as a quarantine set up for a while now but I recently noticed that some of the silicone is peeling off both the inside and outside of the tank. I really like this tank and really don't want it to start leaking. I'm not too surprised, seeing as I the bought the tank used, then it was set up for a total of almost 4 years (3 1/2 years as a reeftank, about 5 months as a QT) and spent almost a year outside in between. So my plan is to drain it, scrape out all the peeling silicone and re-seal it, as well as use Novus to repair the scratched acrylic. I'm planning on using the Aqueon brand silicone sealant as my LFS has it on hand and I'd prefer not to order it online. So has anybody used the stuff? Especially interested in the curing time, as my discus will be spending time in a rubbermaid tote. So the sooner they can be put back in the tank, the better! (Obviously, without hurting the fish!) Any help would be great!

Thanks!

I should also mention that the silicone that is peeling (luckily) isn't along any of the major seams of the tank and the areas affected are mainly on the outside of the tank, in the filter compartment, and around the black rim at the top of the tank.

Well, I had originally thought it was acrylic (according to the person I bought it from) but it turns out it is glass. There goes my Novus idea to fix the side panel!

I just watched The king of DIY's video on YouTube and he only used cerium oxide and a single buffing pad to buff out fine scratches, which is definitely what I'm dealing with, as I can't catch the scratches when I run my fingernail over them. So i might try that route and see how it works, especially since I really wasn't looking to make this a perfect display tank.

The Biocube is built fairly tough. I have one currently running for over a decade, its seams still look really solid; I would give it another 10yrs but UV exposure can change that.
