I've been trying to get my planted tank looking better than average. I've had plants in the tank for the past year with good and bad results. I can keep them alive and some look well but they aren't at optimum levels and i want them to grow better without using a CO2 tank. I read that turning the air filter off during the day will help the CO2 that the fish emit dissolve better into the water. I'm somewhat reluctant to do this because I have plenty fish, and expensive discus and Im afraid that with me not having AC on during the day and with heat as high as its been lately, that the heat will prohibit the oxygen levels in the tank. I tried it once, had it on timer on at night off during day, and the fish seemed to be breathing harder so I turned it back on after a day or two. Should I just let them adapt to no air during the day. Any advice would be helpful. I have a 125 gallon tank with 2 Xp3 rena canister filters. I have lots of plants and about 25 fish, maybe half of them being over 3 inches.

Also, I've just started using flourish about a month ago. Been using the comprehensive solution, but have read that adding excel to tank daily, will add CO2 and help me with my brush algae problem. I just bought some flourish iron to assist with some red plants I just bought. I use the flourish compr. twice a week(two capfuls), will use the excel daily(1 capful), and the iron supplement every two weeks(2 capfuls). Is that too many chemicals being used simultaneously?

FYI, I have mostly amazon swords, java fern, and othr common plants.
