Hi Experts,
I bought a flowerhorn 6 months back. I have uploaded 5 photos. Last 2 are the old photos when at the time i bought them. Experts pls compare its hump and give me your suggestions. Will the hump will grow or not?

I feed humpy head pellet, live blood worms, earthworm, dry shrimp. Any suggestions on food other then this to add its color and develop its hump. Its a bare tank do 10% water change once in 2 days... Need frank comments from experts :-)

Apart from feeding variety of foods i am getting only pink color rather than dark red color. Any suggestions for getting red pigments/color. Click the link to find the images.

Hikara cichlid gold is loaded with beta carontene which is a color enhancer.
shrimp in shell help also and the best pellets are ching mix. You can go to there web site and see before and afters.Hope this is helpfull

i don't think they have hikari in india. but yeah, my fh love market shrimp. i also use chingmix for my fh. i don't think they taste as good though because my fish prefer hikari pellets over chingmix. feed foods with more spirulina, it helps bring out the color better.

What size is the FH currently?

am no expert but i love ur fh..looks cute...im new to fh keeping just got mine a couple of months back

i am not an expert either. it does look like your fh has potential to grow a decent hump. it looks like a water head to me. one thing tha i have heard that helps grow the hump is starving them for one or two days a week. they don't really starve but it is supposed to help.

where can i get ching mix for a decent price?

if you join team chingmix at flowerhorncraze, you can get special member pricing. It's $10 a bag I believe, versus $15 you see if for at LFS. YOu have to pay shipping, but if you buy several bags at a time it works out to a good savings.

Also as far as the red color, you want to feed foods high in anaxtacin. NLS, Chingmix, Krill, Raw shrimp, and the best IMO is cyclpeeze.

There's only a certain amount you can get out of every flowerhorn. Alot is in the genes. I honestly don't think he'll ever get dark red but the suggestions above for enhancing color are correct.

I would suggest Grand Sumo Red. I have had extremely good luck with this stuff even when chingmix fails. I had a blue dragon with almost no color and after feeding grand sumo red it started becoming more red. Also all my other fish that have red greatly, greatly increased red coloration from eating GSR. I think it is one of the best foods for red coloration. As far as the head is concerned it is all in the genetics. Your fish does seem to have a water kok therefor I personally think it can get much bigger. A great way to pump the kok is to put it in a tank with a smaller male fish that it can pick on. It may kill the fish but it will still help. I have had experience getting the kok to "pop" by housing my fh with a slightly smaller red devil. The red devil got beat up constantly for a couple months until it died but I haven't found anything else that works better. I also suggest holding or taping a mirror up to the side of the tank for a short period each day. The head is generally correlated with agression and dominance. You could also put 2 males into a tank divided, however after some time one will become the "loser" and may lose head size. NEVER house your fish with a female unless you are breeding as this will destroy your fishes head size within a day. Fasting is a good idea as well. It is wise to fast your fh at least 1-2 days out of each week to promote a very heathly immune system. Whether or not this actually helps head growth I don't know. Either way good luck and hope everything works out for you.
