ok so i have grown four gars from 4" to 9" and there are 2 more which were 3" and now are 5"ish

among the first four guys three of them moved to dry shrimp and aro sticks without any probs but i had a few problems with one of them as he took a little longer than expected to accept dry food

the gar which did not accept dry food had starved for nearly a month
then i had removed him and put him into a Q tank and had fed him live food for nearly 2 weeks and in that time he had caught up with the others in size and then once in two days i tried to feed him dry and kept trying till he started accepting dry shrimp and then gradually moved him to accept pellets

My Question is do the gars have difference in patterns with difference in their feeding
i mean the gars which accepted pellets and dry shrimp readily in the beginning have a really sharp and well defined pattern and the other one which ate live more has a pretty hazy pattern and even the gars which my LFS owns (3 17" gars in his aro comm) have pattern similar to my gars

here are a few pics

No... there is no difference in coloration due to feeding alone...certain foods will influence it to a small degree but it is in general a wide range of environmental and physiologic influences that sums up to the end result.

could it also be that it might be a genetic reason too as all four of them were kept together, and all of them were bought from the same place and the other one was moved only for a month as he wasn't eating dry food

If you wait 30 minutes the fishes color will change.

These fish are highly variable with many factors determining color intensity, hue, and pattern. They usually have a set base pattern but everything else is up in the air.

this is very true. i notice slight changes in a few of mine from day to day...especially the tropical.
