• MO. REV. STAT. §578.023 - Keeper of dangerous wild animals must register animals, exceptions - penalty.

1. No person may keep any lion, tiger, leopard, ocelot, jaguar, cheetah, mar***, mountain lion, canada lynx, bobcat, jaguarundi, hyena, wolf, or coyote, or any deadly, dangerous, or poisonous reptile, in any place other than a properly maintained zoological park, circus, scientific, or educational institution, research laboratory, veterinary hospital, or animal refuge, unless such person has registered such animals with the local law enforcement agency in the county in which the animal is kept.

How do you go about registering your animal with Local Law Enforcement? I mean, do you have to get a permit/register first? and THEN get your animal? Not sure of all the animals I have to register for either.

I am wanting to get a fennec fox if possible, but not sure if I would have to register either. Was hoping to get a skunk too possibly, that would be so awesome.

Your local wildlife department should be able to tell you. For instance, here in Florida I can get a permit for a skunk after applying for a simple free permit which requires me to answer a few basic husbandry questions. I think the Fennec Fox falls into the same category here too. Large and/or dangerous animals are the ones that require special permits and inspections.

Additionally, unless you want a fine I would definitely get the permit before you get the animal. Don't take any chances.....or if you're going to take chances, don't post about it here. ;)

I just found out that Fennec Fox's ARE legal here in Missouri!! :D There is actually a breeder that lives about two hours from me!! AWESOME!! I'm totally stoked!! :)

Skunks are illegal, but if I got a permit would they let me keep it? Or even with a permit they aren't allowed? :( That bites. Oh well. I'll be more than happy if I can get a Fennec Fox!! :D

Has anyone ever kept one or know someone who has one?

I know people who have had skunks. Never heard of needing a permit. They are more pests than dangerous. Even the spray (if glands are not removed) does not really smell bad. It just smells ALLOT!
But where I was we just did whatever we wanted. Maybe you do need a permit.
Does Alternate Reality have Fish and Game enforcement?

Oh, and in Canada wild animals have no rights whatsoever. So you can do whatever you want as long as it does not endanger a precious human.

You're going for the foxes are you PP, that's cool, I imagine they are a lot of work though, they seem so high energy.

Hence the rampant incidence of lonely Canadian mountain men humping deer.
That's so not true. Our deer are well fed and much too tall for that sort of thing.
Unless you are carrying hiking boots AND platforms.
Trust me.
